While DeSantis and Haley both need wins, Haley’s lifeline is a bit more extended due to South Carolina, her home state. By the time SC votes in its primary the nomination ought to be clear — but she has to clear the hurdles in Iowa and New Hampshire first.
Both candidates came to prominence during the tea party: DeSantis was a tea party candidate and founded the House Freedom Caucus. Haley was considered a tea party candidate and became governor. Their decisions have greatly differentiated them, however, with Haley taking a more establishment approach on immigration, China, Ukraine, trans issues, Disney and the culture war, and more, while DeSantis has built a constitutionalist, limited government record.
