Last Week In Legal: Movement Everywhere Edition
Hunter tries to get out his cases, Trump faces problems in every case, and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed's mouth gets her in trouble.
Hunter Biden Legal Troubles
In the Gun case in Delaware, Judge Noreika has set the pretrial conference for May 24 and rejected all of the outstanding motions to dismiss.
In his tax case in California, Hunter Biden has filed an Interlocutory Appeal, essentially saying that Judge Scarsi wrongfully rejected his motion to dismiss the case. Hunter claims that because he had completed the terms of the previous plea deal that never actually happened, the DOJ could not bring the tax case against him. However, he will likely lose this appeal. The same Delaware judge who presided over the failed plea agreement is in charge of the current gun case and has already rejected a similar argument in that case.
In other Hunter-related news, a federal judge gave the DOJ slap on the hand for instructing two of its lawyers to refuse to cooperate with the House Oversight Committee’s investigation. The two lawyers were subpoenaed twice and refused to appear. Judge Reyes compared them to former Trump advisor Peter Navarro, who is currently serving four months in jail for the exact same thing. “The rules apply to you all too,” she told the DOJ.
Also, it was revealed that Hunter’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, visited the White House just two days before Hunter initially refused to sit for a closed-door deposition with Congress. This is back in December 2023, when Hunter pulled his stunt of showing up in DC and then running to the camera to demand a public hearing. Mr. Lowell claims he was attending a Hanukkah function at the White House. According to the visitor logs, he met with Jill Biden’s top aide, Anthony Bernal. Anthony Bernal is on the list of names of people whom the Bidens sent to deal with classified documents in the Penn-Biden Center BEFORE admitting to NARA that the documents were there.
Meanwhile, - and take this information with a grain of salt because all of the sources for this are friendly to Russia - Russia is claiming that Burisma Holdings is responsible for funding terrorist attacks inside Russia. A Russian intelligence committee is apparently trying to tie Hunter Biden to the attacks by claiming that the US is funneling money to Burisma to fund the attacks. So far, no evidence of any such thing has been offered; it is literally just the word from a Russian source. Ironically, the US warned Russia about the attack in question, the attack that ISIS claimed responsibility for at the Crocus City Hall.
