“Dana is about to rustle some Jimmies.” - Chip Gerdes
Let’s just dive into it. So I saw this:
Why? Why attack other Republicans? Especially solid Republican governors?
One thing that makes me super hostile, from 0 to 60 in under one second, is when people who have been Constitutionalists for barely one heartbeat take it upon themselves to be the conscience or bouncer for the conservative/Constitutionalist movement. I am speaking specifically of Kari Lake.
I don’t dislike Lake. I’ve hosted her on my program. I find her engaging and well spoken.
But! This type of shenanigan is beneath her.
For starters, all governors merely followed President Trump’s dictum. Upon realizing that the science went against masking and lockdowns, a few governors, including Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis, reversed this position, invoking the ire of Trump. DeSantis further had to fight county executives and mayors to keep beaches open. My memory is stained with envy here, because all, literally all, of our kids’s friends’s families temporarily moved to rentals Florida during this period. I was besieged with sunny beach shots via text, ad nauseam.
I winced when Lake told Arizona voters on camera: “We don't have any McCain Republicans in here, do we? Alright if you are, get the hell out!”
Whether you like or dislike McCain’s polices (I’m well on record over the years here) is irrelevant: if you want to win the “throne,” you play the “game of thrones” properly — you don’t waltz into the town of a revered politician and tell his supporters to go unceremoniously blank themselves. That’s what Lake did and it’s a reason why she lost. I didn’t want that seat to go to a Democrat any more than you did, but apparently she was unaware that you don’t win votes by pissing off the very people you need to vote for you.
It’s why I believe that she lost. But what about fraud? Sure, I believe fraud exists, and I say this as someone who had to fight to dump the vote of someone illegally registered at my home address. Enough centralized fraud to change the outcome of her election? I’m not convinced. I follow irrefutable evidence, though, which is why I’m a conservative Constitutionalist who loves science and believes in two separate genders.
I’m going to be blunt and brief, because I respect your time:
Lake was a registered Democrat member of the media before Trump took a liking to her political presence and then she suddenly became a fire-breathing Republican and ran unsuccessfully for governor. Obviously I’m not against converts, I just don’t think they should be viewed as the conscience of, or bouncer for, the Constitutionalist movement, which is exactly the vibe I got from the above-linked clip.
Whether you support Trump or DeSantis is irrelevant to the the irrefutable fact that DeSantis has been a powerhouse Governor. Acknowledging this isn’t a slight against the former President and it’s insane to me that any such acknowledgement would ever be interpreted as such. We on the right are not so rich in liberty-minded lawmakers that we can jettison some from the party if they prove inconvenient for whichever politician we like at the time.
After reaction began building on X, Lake posted this:
Then why the soundbite? You can’t make a claim and then when the fact-checking proves uncomfortable, tell everyone to move on and stop doing what you just did — and if following the former President’s edict was bad, then what was the edict? C’mon.
As the saying goes, there’s always a tweet.
Ron did not ban offshore drilling. we had a vote on it, and we voted not to have it.
Early on, MAGAs were talking "desantis as VP then 2028 aa president" then one day Trump attacked DeSantis and the cult did a full group 180. Kari Lake is desperate for a trump position be it VP or handmaid. Funny DeSantis is both accused of complying and also having tbe wold west at the sane time.
