The missing Weapons Systems Officer has been recovered, following a rescue operation that could actually be the plot of a movie.
Just after midnight, in the wee hours of Easter morning, President Donald Trump broke his silence to announce that the missing Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) from Friday’s downed F-15E had been recovered and was safely in Kuwait receiving medical treatment.
About 9 PM eastern, word spread on X via various OSINT and other sources that a massive firefight had broken out near the city of Dehdasht. At 9:20 PM, author Toby Harden claimed that an officer overseeing the CSAR operation told him that the WSO had been extracted after scaling a 7,000 ft ridge while evading enemy capture. About 30 minutes later, a post, which has since been deleted, appeared on the USAF Spec War Recruiting Instagram claiming that the WSO had been recovered. It was the first time any official account mentioned the matter.
The President confirmed in his Truth Social post that the silence from all official channels was a deliberate effort to avoid jeopardizing the rescue operation.
According to CBS:
The harrowing military operation utilized bombs and weapons fire to keep Iranian troops away from where the missing officer was believed to be hiding, the two officials said. While stranded, he had only a handgun to defend himself, the two officials disclosed.
After the airman was rescued, two U.S. transport planes that were being used to ferry rescue personnel out got trapped at a remote Iranian base, the two officials said. Three new aircraft were then flown in to extract U.S. rescue troops and the officer, and the two transport planes were destroyed so they would not fall into Iran’s possession, the two officials disclosed.
