Obviously, I’m going to discuss all of this on air tomorrow. But for tonight, a few things:
This was a security disaster.
Who was responsible for the roofline?
Look at the difference in these two eras of Secret Service:
It’s like a scene out of “Anchorman.” Secret Service Agent Robert Wanko abracadabra’d an Uzi from a briefcase to give Reagan and company cover while they evacuated — all while wearing a three piece suit, which irrelevant. John Hinckley approached in a crowd before crouching to shoot six times with a Rohm RG-14 in 1.7 seconds.
Compare that with …
I said earlier how the video shows the agent on the left fumbling with her holster and the agent on the right later puts on her sunglasses. They are audibly heard in the video asking each other where to go.
The Secret Service’s error with Reagan was to allow an unscreened group to get near the rope that blocked Reagan from fully mixing with the public. The error with Trump was that apparently no one secured all the rooftops within the sight line of Trump’s position. The killer shimmied up to the rooftop and was seen bear-crawling across the roof to get into position by bystanders. What the hell?
What of the cop who confronted the killer minutes before the shooting began? The Secret Service were extremely helpful in their presser earlier this evening and answered every question — psych! — no, they didn’t answer a damn thing about the attempted assassination and stuck only to answering questions about RNC security.
I’ll dive deeper into all of this on tomorrow’s program.
The media is culpable.
Here was the New Republic recently:
WaPo:
Hollywood Reporter:
NY Mag:
You get the idea. They haven’t been very charitable in the aftermath, either.
Forbes:
They deleted this, not because they thought it was wrong or with any apology, but just to save face.
The NYT ran this the next day:
Not just the media.
Biden, the day before Trump was shot: "Most importantly, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, Trump is a threat to this nation."
Biden, on July 8th: So, we’re done talking about the debate. It’s time to put Trump in a bullseye."
Here’s a thought: Maybe, just maybe if you tell people that Trump is literally Hitler and an existential threat, your fans — like the guy who tried to assassinate congressional members on the ballfield — will take you seriously. For all the “both sides” talk the bullets have only ever flown one way.
Stop with the “if only the gun laws had been different” nonsense.
Maybe if the team of security professionals had seen a guy shimmying up to the roof and bear-crawling across to the middle this would not have happened.
A dad lost his life. A family lost a father.
God bless the Comperatore family. Dad Corey was shot and killed by this evil cretin. In one last act of heroism, the firefighter threw himself on his wife and daughters to shield them from the bullets.
A lot of talk about unity. Is this family’s loss enough for action? Only the people bringing the violence can answer that.
Again, a whole lot more tomorrow, including how and why the “replace Biden” movement is done.
Since 1963 I've known that one determined man with a rifle can change the world.
I’m still shaken ….. mere millimeters could have changed the world…. I’m so looking forward to hearing you tomorrow.
