Dana already outlined her reasons for opposing the three horsemen but I want to give particular attention to the disaster that was Rick Scott’s leadership of the NRSC during this time.
The NRSC — the National Senatorial Campaign Committee — is responsible for just that: senate campaigns. Scott went into the midterm cycle with $181.5 million in cash but blew it faster than Hunter Biden with cocaine and hookers on “consultancy, self promotion” and “failed digital fundraising.” He was left with a pittance compared to the Democrats’ war chest.
Scott was accused by members of his own party of improper spending. He spent the midterm election unveiling his own unilateral, self-promoting GOP plan that derailed the Senate victory strategy, pulling the rug out from under senate candidates, and then in the middle of it all took a luxury vacation to Italy. The result was that Democrats over-performed in the absence of Republican leadership and expanded their majority. Were it not for McConnell stepping in with funds for J.D. Vance in Ohio, Vance likely would have lost his race and would not be VP today. Here’s more:
Because of Scott’s ineptitude, it fell to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to rescue the GOP candidates abandoned by the NRSC. McConnell-aligned super PACs invested a whopping $240.7 million in key Senate races, including $119.6 million in three states where Scott’s NRSC pulled scheduled TV ads: Pennsylvania ($56.7 million), Nevada ($25.5 million) and North Carolina ($37.4 million). McConnell-aligned PACs also spent $16.3 million in New Hampshire trying to rescue pro-Trump candidate Dan Bolduc, staying on the air for 17 days after the NRSC pulled out of the race, before finally withdrawing as well. McConnell also spent $32.2 million in Ohio saving J.D. Vance’s struggling campaign and $38 million in Georgia to get Herschel Walker into a Senate runoff — which is the only reason Republicans have a chance of emerging from this cycle without a diminished Senate minority.
So Scott was reduced to begging RINO Mitch McConnell to bail out the NRSC during midterms. What sort of deal was struck to make that happen? I’m no McConnell fan, I merely share this to illustrate how bad it was under Scott. He was unable to recruit strong candidates and properly fund existing races. That’s the only job as NRSC head. His own party wanted to audit him. The Senate controls the confirmation process to the judiciary. Scott is not up to this task. Consider the victories we’ve stuck against “free” college tuition, DEI, with SCOTUS, future victories that will be jeopardized by weak, proven-ineffective leadership.
I understand the concerns about due process and gun law and don’t mean to diminish them by not adding my own two cents here (I’m not sure what more could be said), but at the most basic of examinations, Rick Scott doesn’t pass the competency test. I don’t think we’re going to get anything better, though.
P.J. Miller works in business and is a Chapter and Verse contributor.
Scott may be slightly better than Cornyn and Thune, but that’s like saying the Lusitania had a better band than the Titanic.
The fact is, all three are terrible. Why - with great picks happening like Homan, Miller, and Stefanik - are we allowing a Democrat ally to be Senate Majority Leader? It makes zero sense
Is this Mitch McConnell’s revenge?
None of this three will be allies of Trump’s agenda. Bunch of power grabbing idiots!
