Politico Got Paid from USAID and Other Government Agencies
Other media companies, like NYT, Reuters, and AP, also appear on the list of payments.
It’s true. Various government departments paid Politico 34.3 million dollars over the last 10 years. A glance at USASpending.gov shows that in every case, the payments were for Politico’s little-known policy tracker, PoliticoPro. This service costs over $10,000 a year for one user. While the apologists say that these subscriptions are needed in order to keep staffers well-informed, others question the wisdom of using a tool created by a left-leaning news organization to shape policy.
The AP received 2.2 million dollars between 2008 and 2013. However, a perusal of USASpending shows that most of the payments were for either subscriptions, rental time for remote hits, or payment for using photos or video.
