Once Again, the GOP Trips Over Its Own Feet
Failed Mayorkas impeachment, Border Bill trap, Trump backs Bud Lite again, and Ronna tucks her tail and runs.
Tuesday night, the House failed to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas. You can read the impeachment resolution on the House website. Four Republicans sided with the Democrats to save Mayokas.
Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) says the GOP didn't reach the standard for impeachment that they said needed to be met during the Trump impeachments.
Rep Tom McClintock (R-CA) said, “Secretary Mayorkas is guilty of maladministration of our immigration laws on a cosmic scale. But we KNOW that’s not grounds for impeachment because the American Founders specifically rejected it.” He also said political disagreements are not grounds for impeachment, and this can only be fixed by the American people at the ballot box. He even put out a ten-page memo explaining his thinking.
Rep Ken Buck (R-CO) wrote in an op-ed published by The Hill, “Partisan impeachments that do not meet the constitutional standard will boomerang back and hurt Republicans in the future. I can envision a future Republican administration where a Democrat-led House uses this precedent to act against a Republican Cabinet member who isn’t discharging their duties in a way that Democrats desire.”
Rep Blake More (R-UT) changed his “yes” vote to a “no” as a procedural maneuver when it became clear the resolution would fail. This way, he can call the resolution back up for another vote later if they can wrangle the votes.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) is currently out of the office. He is undergoing a procedure to help him fight off his cancer, so he missed the vote. On the Democrat side, Rep Al Green (D-TX) showed up barefoot in a wheelchair wearing scrubs, saying he was fresh out of surgery but needed to get to the floor to vote “no.”
This comes after the border bill debacle. Make no mistake, the bill is horrifically bad. But as the GOP often does, they snatched political defeat from the jaws of victory by hyping this bill as a possible answer to all the border woes and then allowing the Democrats to control the narrative surrounding it.
The worst part is that we’ve seen this playbook so many times before it was easily predicted:
As Dana wrote on Twitter/X:
“The first fatal error is that Republicans accepted as serious the argument that you need more laws to enforce existing law at the border. You don't need to move to the amendment stage when the very premise is a non-starter. On his first day, Biden used executive authority to remove Trump's executive orders on immigration, WHICH IS WHY YOU SHEPHERD LEGISLATION THROUGH CONGRESS AND STOP RELYING ON EXECUTIVE ORDERS FOR EVERYTHING, IT'S CALLED LEADERSHIP, FOLKS.
Interior enforcement, wall construction, MPP, everything overturned with a pen just as fast as it was implemented with one. Republicans had four years to make a legislative stand prior to Biden and didn't. No excuses.
So now here we are. The border is nonexistent. Republicans walked right into a messaging trap in an election year, and half will be too terrified to steel the spine and dig in. Democrats haven't even begun spending from their massive war chest or fulfilling their media buys. They're going to beat Repub mercilessly with ads showing them opposing the border patrol union while Dems get to preen and pretend that they brought the bill forward, playing on the short memory and attention span of the electorate.
And the GOP will likely pick that most inopportune time to have an ego-fellating, power-jockeying contest in which they try to one-up each other in another ill-timed speaker race for yet another guy with even less political capital to spend. Or maybe they'll take to fighting with non-endorsement compliant candidates in winnable primaries while Dems gather all the mud-slinging for general ad season - which they will be able to greatly outspend the GOP on because the national party is broke.
Many of the state parties are broke, some of the big in personality but small in votes candidates are struggling to even bring in a third of the cash the Dem opponents are raising. No direction from the top down on messaging, no top-down strategy, it's an absolute CLUSTER----.
Nothing I'm saying here is incorrect, no matter someone's irrelevant feelings on the issue. You either want to win or F around with your feels. You can't do both. Anything other than the desire to steamroll over everyone and everything to win resoundingly in '24 is weakness.
So either people better get real about these major issues affecting this party NOW (which is still late) or go nurse their butthurt in the corner while the country goes to hell. No one cares about your fealty contests, your cliques, your egos. Winning is all. The end.”
While all this was happening, what was the presumptive nominee talking about today?
He was urging people to forgive Bud Light.
The fact that a top lobbyist for Anheuser-Busch is holding a huge fundraiser for Trump next month might have something to do with his post. Or maybe his $1 - 5 Million dollars worth of AB stock might be why he is suddenly concerned for the beer company that still has not apologized for supporting a man who makes his living pretending to be a girl.
Meanwhile, the RNC Chairwoman has decided she will be resigning in the middle of a Presidential election after the South Carolina Primary. That means the party will have to elect a new chair, who honestly has almost no chance of turning things around in time for the election later this year. Add to that the calls for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to step down as he is blamed for the whole border bill mess.
The party is a complete mess. The party can not spend more on flowers than it does on voter file maintenance, and expect to win!
Buckle up, folks; this election is going to be rough.

Feet, hands, and they should be on the receiving end of the foot to the ass.
A total inept party of buffonery. They are the ultimate embarrassment. Who are these clowns? We're experiencing a critical time in American history and these reckless jerks can't get any thing right. The nation is in dire straits.
