I think everyone is over-thinking this.
We have a culture that encourages navel-gazing, a culture that views ambition with suspicion, a culture which teaches that pride in one’s country is a shameful thing.
We also have a culture that celebrates and encourages mediocrity, victimhood, and says failure is the new winning. It’s a Hate America…
