NY Sends An Innocent Man to Prison Over His Second Amendment Rights

Taylor’s case is one of many efforts to push the populace into an alternative registry.

I spoke with Dexter Taylor in February about his case wherein the state of New York charged him with a felony for legally building his own firearm for his own personal enjoyment, a perfectly legal action per existing federal law. He was convicted of multiple felonies today including criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, prohibition on unfinished frames or receivers and one count of unlawful possession of pistol ammunition. He was immediately taken into custody and faces 18 years in Rikers.

Here’s the law:

Taylor, an innocent man with no criminal record, was not selling his personal builds. He was not selling guns, at all. Because he was not selling the guns he built, he was not required to serialize them (previously a manufacturer’s way of monitoring product until the government saw an opportunity). This didn’t matter. The ATF and NYPD raided his home and arrested him any way. The tracked his financial records to credit card purchases for legal firearms parts that he legally ordered for his legal build.

This is the same ATF that had such lax security itself it allowed a security guard to steal guns from its National Firearms and Ammunition Destruction Branch for three years. The same ATF eager to revoke the federal firearms licenses of FFLs by an over 500% increase under the Biden administration. The main justification cited was “paperwork errors.”

The state argued that Taylor should have obtained a license to make his own firearms for his own use except NY isn't in the habit of granting licenses. They make it impossible purposefully as a way to make law-abiding people into felons.

Here is a case of the state fabricating criminality for an innocent man with a clean record. Because race is so very important to the left in such stories -- it's the case of a black man being unfairly targeted by the state. Where are the protests? Where are the “hands up don’t shoot” chants?

This is a civil rights story about a natural rights issue.

The left is silent on constitutional abuses when it concerns the Second Amendment. The same people who screamed about injustice regarding Breonna Taylor won't say anything about the state trying to put away this innocent man for 18 years.

The famous "gun rights" groups eager to pad their bottom line are silent because they don't want to rock fundraising. Instead, they’ll act as though the issue is too nuanced to easily explain, thus the silence.

Taylor’s case is one of many efforts to push the populace into an alternative registry. If they can't do it outright due to existing federal law prohibiting it (for now), they'll make us all FFLs instead. Innocent hobbyists will be made felons and everyone will be registered.
