After a two-day manhunt, the Ramsey County Sheriffs picked up the 57-year-old killer near the home he shared with his wife and kids in Green Isle, Minnesota, late Sunday night. According to reports, he was still armed when police arrested him, though they haven’t said with what.
The Sheriff’s office posted a photo to prove the man was in their custody, along with a statement on their Facebook:
“The face of evil. After relentless and determined police work, the killer is now in custody. Thanks to the dedication of multiple agencies working together along with support from the community, justice is one step closer.”
John Hoffman’s wife Yvette released a statement to the press following the capture:
First and foremost, John and I hold a deep and profound gratitude for the work of our law enforcement agencies and the public for their help in bringing the suspect to justice, while diligently keeping our communities safe during this extremely difficult and senseless event.
John and I are both incredibly lucky to be alive. We continue our healing journey and are humbled by the outpouring of love and support our family has received from across the state and our nation.
There is never a place for senseless political violence and loss of life. We are devastated by the loss of Melissa and Mark, and our hearts go out to all those who knew and loved them both. We are always at our best when we unite together.
The Hoffman Family
Earlier in the day, Yvette told the press that her husband had been shot 9 times, while she caught 8 rounds herself. Her nephew revealed that Yvette had thrown herself over her 28-year-old disabled daughter in an attempt to save her daughter’s life. As a result, the daughter was not hit. According to his wife, John Hoffman has been in and out of surgery and is very close to being “out of the woods.” At the press conference late Sunday night, Gov Tim Walz said that Hoffman’s last surgery had gone well, and he was once again in recovery.
Over the last 24 hours, as the local press did a lot of digging, we learned so much more about the guy, like that the place he was primarily living was not his family home. He was renting a room in a home in Minneapolis, where he lived with two roommates. Dave has been talking to the press about his former roommate. He said that VLB was anti-abortion, but didn’t talk about the subject much. He mentioned that the VLB had been struggling both to find work and financially since returning from the Congo a few months ago. Video of him preaching at a church in the DRC surfaced late Saturday afternoon.
Dave said his former roommate was a Republican and a big fan of InfoWars and Trump. “He was looking around, but maybe things didn’t work out and he just gave up and decided to go out in a blaze of glory,” Dave said.
According to the timeline that has been put together, the shooter got to the Hoffmans’ home in Champlin at about 2 AM, shot John Hoffman and his wife, but left the daughter alive. Then he headed over to Hortman's place in the next neighborhood over, Brooklyn Park, and shot both of them. However, the police in Champlain called Brooklyn Park and warned them to go check on Hortman since someone clearly targeted Hoffman. That phone call dramatically shortened the Brooklyn Park response time and interrupted VLB’s plans. As he was leaving the Hortman home at about 335 AM to head to the next place, the police rolled up. They tried to ask why the security guard was there. At that point, he panicked and opened fire. As the Police returned fire, he retreated back into the house and escaped out the back.
In his abandoned security SUV, police found papers with “No Kings” written on them, as well as a hit list that made it seem like this rampage had something to do with abortion. There were claims of a manifesto circulated online; however, it’s unclear if there was a true manifesto or just a hit list.
VLB returned to the home he shared with Dave around 6 AM to get one of his cars. At that time, he texted both of his roommates a final message:
“David and Ron, I love you guys. I’ve made some choices and you guys don’t know anything about this, but I’m going to be gone for a while. I may be dead shortly. So I just want to let you know that I love you guys both. And wish it hand’s gone this way. I don’t want to say anything more, and implicate you in any way because you guys don’t know anything about this, but I love you guys and I’m sorry for all the trouble this has caused.”
Meanwhile, the wife was stopped for a traffic stop with “other relatives" in the car near Onamia, 2 hours north of Minneapolis, sometime between 10 -11 AM. Police found cash, a weapon, and passports in the car. The media learned that the wife and others in the car were questioned, but there has been no word if they were detained or arrested at all.
Sunday evening, the police found his car parked on the side of the road in an area near the home VLB shared with his wife and kids. According to WaPo, an alert officer thought they spotted him running in the woods and called in SWAT. When they finally found him a few hours later, he was in the vicinity of the Green Isle home.

Good. This murderer is tied to clown Tim Walz. He should be investigated for this.
Good.
