If you enter the country illegally and plan an Independence Day massacre with illegally possessed guns, you’ll be offered $15k bond. If you enter the country legally, do everything right, run your own bodega and add value to the community, you’re thrown in Rikers with $250K bail (half of what DA Alvin Bragg demanded) for defending yourself on camera against two thugs, one a violent ex-con.
Jose Alba, 61, immigrated to the United States 30 years ago, became a citizen 14 years ago, and worked hard at his bodega in Harlem. It was reported that the woman’s EBT or debit card was declined when she went to purchase potato chips; she argued with Alba and then called her boyfriend, career criminal, Austin Simon, 35 for backup.
Simon entered the bodega wearing a $350 designer t-shirt and fought with Alba; at one point the girlfriend produced a knife from her purse and stabbed Alba in the hand and arm. Alba grabbed a knife used to open boxes and he stabbed Simon several times in the chest and neck. He’s been charged with murder for defending himself against a violent ex-con. Instead of calling her man to fight with Alba, Simon’s broke, trash girlfriend should have demanded that her man stop spending money on $350 t-shirts so she can buy potato chips (assuming he bought it and didn’t steal it, not a stretch to ask considering his behavior on camera in Alba’s bodega).
