Jimmy Kimmel is Done.
After he blatantly lied on air about Charlie Kirk's death, ABC affiliates pushed until ABC "indefinitely" suspended him.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” Kimmel said Monday night. He then went on to poke fun at the President, glossing over the last week of speeches and mourning, instead playing a clip of Trump discussing the ballroom construction.
Because of his blatant lie about the shooter, the right and Charlie’s fans decided enough was enough. FCC Chair and friend of the show, Brendan Carr, suggested to Benny Johnson that he was looking into what, if anything, the FCC could do to discipline Kimmel and ABC over the comments. Blaze host Auron MacIntyre took to X to urge people to contact ABC, Disney, the show sponsors, and anyone involved in airing the show, and urge them to fire Kimmel.
Within a few hours of MacIntyre’s tweet, Nextstar Media Group, the largest owner of local television stations, announced that they would not allow the Kimmel show to air on their affiliated ABC stations. Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, said:
“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located. Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”
Shortly after NextStar publicly announced their decision to preempt the Kimmel show, Disney, ABC’s parent company, made the decision to indefinitely suspend the Kimmel show. Later, we discovered that Sinclair, the media group that owns the most ABC stations, had also decided to preempt the Kimmel show and was negotiating behind the scenes with ABC. More than that, Sinclair announced that they would be airing a tribute to Charlie on Friday in Kimmel’s timeslot on their ABC stations. They are also demanding that Kimmel apologize to Charlie’s family and make a large donation to Turning Point USA before they will even begin to consider allowing his show back on their airwaves.
