If Robots Turn On Us It Will Be Because of the Waymos
I cannot believe I’m here telling you that I’m sad for those little Waymo cars. I should hate everything about them: Owned by Google, self-driving, electric. I still hate all of those things but I hate people being mean for no reason at all even more, I think.
Rioters in LA have been calling for the cars via the app and then setting them on fire when they arrive. I’m not even sure their AI programming is aware of why they’r being set on fire, just that they are, and boy, do they gloriously burn, all while spewing out noxious chemicals into the air around it. To be honest, no one knows why rioters rioting over illegal immigration are burning self-driving cars although I do wonder if they were trying to use them as toxin bomb of-sorts, considering the dangerous chemical release from the lithium batteries.
The little cars cost anywhere from $150k - $200k each. At least five have been set ablaze that LAPD knows of and it was enough for Waymo to suspend service in the area and disable the app for Los Angeles.
I hope when the machines do eventually come for us they’ll remember who started it with the Great Waymo Fires of 2025. I think I need to rewatch Terminator.
I have my Husqvarna robot lawn mower set to park from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, because even a robot deserves to have a Sabbath. Maybe he'll remember that when the Great Robot Uprising comes.
