House Speaker Fight: Round 2 - Electric Boogaloo
Jim Jordan is fighting to win over several holdouts.
Because Rep Matt Gaetz led his merry band of misfit Congressmen, with help from the Democrats, to oust McCarthy because he passed a CR with help from the Democrats, here we are, once again, in a fight for the Speaker of the House.
The first round of voting was held Monday afternoon with no clear winner. The final tally was: Jordan - 200, Jeffries - 212, Others - 20.
The GOP holdouts voted as follows:
For McCarthy - Rep. Don Bacon, Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Rep. Carlos Gimenez, Rep. Jen Kiggans, Rep. Mike Lawler, and Rep. Doug LaMalfa.
For Scalise - Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, Rep. Tony Gonzales, Rep. Kay Granger, Rep. Mike Kelly, Rep. John Rutherford, Rep. Mike Simpson, and Rep. Steve Womack.
For Zeldin - Rep. Anthony D’Esposito, Rep. Andrew Garbarino, and Rep. Nick LaLota.
For Garcia - Rep. Jake Ellzey.
For Emmer - Rep. Ken Buck.
For Cole - Rep. John James.
For Massie - Rep. Victoria Spartz.
Reps James and LaMalfa say they will vote for Jordan in round 2. Buck, Diaz-Balart, Gimenez, and Rutherford have all said they will NOT vote for Jordan.
Even though Democrat Jefferies has the most votes right now, the speaker must win 50%, plus one, of the votes from all House members present and voting. With two vacancies, the current number of House seats is 433, so 217 votes are necessary.
Earlier this year, the House went for 15 rounds before finally selecting McCarthy. A second round of voting is expected tonight. Stay tuned for updates.

Good job, Lorraine!
They can't even agree to vote a man who can get things done. IMO.
