HOO BOY That Debate

The debate was lost the moment Biden walked out looking like a confused C3PO.

Ok, so the good.

The moderators weren’t bad. Biased, absolutely. They weren’t Chris Wallace.

Whoever prepped Trump deserves an award.

Biden didn’t fall down.

We didn’t have “The idea” as a square on the bingo card that some of you chose to drink to, because had Steve added it you’d all be dead.

So the bad.

The contrast was stunning. Absolutely stunning. That was Biden rested. He walked out looking like a confused C3PO. The debate honestly ended there. But we had 90 minutes to fill. It was 90 minutes of Trump just rhetorically beating the ever-loving hell out of Biden for 90 minutes. Trump hit him on Afghanistan, Navy Joan, Biden couldn't deliver a good barb that Trump, clearly coached well ahead of this, couldn’t out-maneuver. The trickiest moment for him was answering on January 6th which he rolled into “On January 6th we were energy efficient, we had the lowest taxes …” and the moderators rolled onward. Love him or hate him, Trump performed incredibly well this debate, which is easy to do when your opponent is Swiss cheese.

There are 130 days before the election. Democrat donors, operatives, and fundraisers are freaking out — no way that’s not happening. Remember — Jennifer Van Laar explained earlier this year how Democrats recently changed their bylaws for a potential emergency replacement:

This debate did not help Biden. Biden didn’t look strong, he didn’t sound strong, something that his camp attributes to a cold, just disclosed tonight, that he somehow contracted while sequestered for a week in Delaware.

I’ve attended several debates in-person during my career, I’ve watched many more throughout my life, and I’ve never seen a performance like the one I saw from Biden. No meanness, he’s not well.
