Florida Governor Ron DeSantis honorably suspended his presidential 2024 campaign this afternoon in a video announcement just posted.
Some say he should have waited. I disagree. The time to strike is always when something is its hottest, as Chris Christie would tell you. Moderate Christie waited too long and his base disregarded him. DeSantis ran a good campaign but Republican voters prefer Trump and it’s their right to choose.
DeSantis can politically live to fight another day. Ronald Reagan famously lost the 1976 primary to Gerald Ford and later went on to become an iconic Republican president. Perhaps this is DeSantis’s 1976 and his year is 2028. Now we focus on November.
Trump is leading the primary, but I sincerely warn you to not count out the establishment, deep state favorite that is Nikki Haley. As I reported last week, she’s swinging through Texas for a Bush Inc. slate of fundraisers. If she is defeated in South Carolina, where she’s tracking second, Trump will be the nominee. But again, this is a race of delegates and survival. She has more access to big donors. Trump has an astronomical amount of legal fees. Haley must be defeated.
Down-ballot races must also be protected. This means Trump needs to stop his vengeance against electable, conservative candidates in winnable races for the offense of having endorsed DeSantis. We are on track to lose the house unless the GOP gets serious. Petty endorsements aren’t serious and don’t drive unity. If you want unity, protect those down ballot races to ensure the people’s purse is protected and unity will come in spades.
The goal is prosperity for Americans and that is best achieved through limited government. Joe Biden will not deliver that. Onward to 2024.
He ran a good, honest campaign and DeSantis should be proud of that. I’m praying DeSantis runs in 2028.
I will vote for DeSantis 2028 but it was time. We need the whole of the Republican Party to rise up and fight the Obama/Biden agenda. P.S. I’m frankly thankful that I don’t have to argue with my brothers and sisters anymore.
