Activist Judges Try to Stop President Trump: A Look at Judge John McConnell, Jr.
The Rhode Island judge thinks that everyone is racist and has deep ties to the Democrat party.
Since day one of President Trump’s second term, almost everything he has done has resulted in legal challenges. Lawfare has a tracker with all the various lawsuits. Several of the judges involved in the multiple cases seem to be more activist than judge, but one stands out above the rest: Rhode Island’s Chief District Judge John McConnell Jr.
Remember that OMB memo that everyone freaked out about because of a coincidence where a tech glitch took down the Medicaid portal after the memo was issued? Judge McConnell is overseeing a case brought in Rhode Island by 22 states and the District of Columbia over that same memo. The complaint alleges that the memo, which has been rescinded, is too broad and would result in states not being able to meet their bills due to federal money being withheld. Judge McConnell granted the states their TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) on January 31, declaring that even though the memo had been rescinded, because the underlying EOs were still in effect, the threat of loss of funding was still very real. He also ordered that ALL payments from the Federal Government must continue while this case proceeds. After an appeals court refused to overturn his ruling, Judge McConnell said that the Trump admin was ignoring his order and demanded the federal government continue funding NIH grants and more.
So, who is Judge John McConnell Jr?
